Hi, I'm Jennifer

Welcome to my website - I'm so glad you're here!

In a nutshell, I’m all things mental health and wellness — and this isn’t my first rodeo! After spending seven years working in Human Resources (benefits, payroll, Joint Health & Safety Committee, sick leave, short- and long-term disability), I found myself completely burned out after my father passed away unexpectedly, my work was no longer fulfilling, and I was diagnosed with Cushing’s Disease after 5 years of medical appointments, testing and declining health.  The loss and struggles changed everything for me. I took a long, hard look at my life and decided to fulfill my lifelong dream of becoming a social worker.  I graduated with my Masters of Social Work from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario in 2013 and my Care worker Addictions diploma in 2015. I’m a Registered Social Worker and lifelong learner, endlessly curious about people — who they are, who they want to be, and how they want to live. I’ve devoted my life and practice to helping others feel seen, validated, and free from the internal suffering that so many of us silently carry. My published Master’s thesis (SUFFERING IN SILENCE? THE EFFECTS OF THE STIGMATIZATION OF MENTAL ILLNESS ON LIFE SATISFACTION) explored the idea that one of the most destructive forms of stigma in mental health comes from within — the self-deprecating, critical internal dialogue and the belief that “no one else feels the way I do.”  That theme continues to guide my work today. Life is far too short to stay stuck in despair and anxiety. After years of reflection, research, and soul-searching, I’m living my dream:  helping others who have feel misunderstood, taken for granted, trapped in self-criticism, shame and regret.

My Approach

Our work together is collaborative and focused on helping you rediscover yourself — not just to “get by,” but to live with more ease, connection, and self-respect.

I draw from a holistic and bio-psycho-social perspective, integrating your thoughts, emotions, body, and environment. You’ll learn to notice how past experiences (often from childhood) continue to shape how you respond to life today — and how to begin shifting those patterns.

My approach is trauma-informed and attachment-based, recognizing that our early experiences oftenshape how we see ourselves and relate to others. I work to create a space that feels safe, collaborative, and empowering—where you can explore at your own pace and feel truly seen and supported. I draw on evidence-based approaches such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, dialectical behavioural theraoy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), blending practical tools with compassion and curiosity. Together, we’ll explore what’s beneath the surface—helping you understand
old patterns, build emotional resilience, and reconnect with your authentic self.

What Sets Me Apart

What makes my work unique is the way I blend professional training with lived experience. I understand pain — emotional and physical — from the inside out. I have been working as a mental health therapist for over 12 years, but my experience with navigating mental health struggles began as a child.

I live with chronic illness and chronic pain, have a history of severe depression and anxiety and I know firsthand how exhausting it can be to keep showing up for life when your body and mind are both struggling. I also know that healing is possible. You don’t have to needlessly suffer anymore!

I bring authenticity, sincerity, and honesty into the therapy space. I am gently directive — I’ll share what I notice and think, but always through a compassionate and diplomatic lens. I don’t hide behind professional distance — I show up authentically. I see you — not the mask you wear to get through the day, and not the version of you that hides behind “I’m fine.” My goal is to help you skip past the mental clutter and get to what really matters: getting better and finding peace.

My Experience

I’ve been a social worker for over 12 years, and this truly feels like a full-circle moment — becoming the therapist I needed when there was no one that I felt understood me or my struggles.

I’ve worked in education (school board), and community mental health settings, with clients across the lifespan — children, teens, and adults. I honour the courage it takes to seek help, and I respect that therapy is a space for you — to be seen, heard, and supported without judgment or pressure.

I look at the whole picture — your lifestyle, symptoms, habits, values and goals — to understand what best supports your mental health and wellness. Together, we’ll create a balanced plan using emotional, behavioural, and practical tools that will help you move forward.
